Rescue partners hope to find a home for Buster, a smart and affectionate dog who needs the right placement
JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A young German Shepherd/Swiss Shepherd mix is looking for a new beginning after being surrendered to the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility, where volunteers say his personality and potential have already won over staff.
Friends of the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility is seeking an approved 501(c)(3) rescue to help Buster, an approximately 1-year, 9-month-old dog who was surrendered because of allergies in his previous home.
According to the organization, Buster is treat-motivated, intelligent, knows several commands and generally walks well on a leash. Shelter staff said he listens well, enjoys learning and showed a playful side after meeting other dogs, although he can be cautious at first.
Buster is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped.
When Buster arrived at the shelter, staff said he was underweight and have been gradually increasing his meals to help him gain weight. The organization said he initially displayed resource guarding around food and a bully stick but did not guard toys and takes treats gently.
Because of the food-guarding behavior, Buster must be placed through an approved 501(c)(3) rescue organization.
Volunteers say they believe Buster has tremendous potential and simply needs a patient home willing to help him continue building confidence and trust. They also noted that he is not a good fit for a home with cats.
