Stamford, CT – A Connecticut man has been arrested after Stamford police say members of the public helped identify him as the suspect in a violent assault that left a downtown bar owner with a serious facial injury.
Sebastian Mardirossian, 36, surrendered to police Monday after detectives obtained an arrest warrant following an investigation into the early morning attack that occurred July 20 at a downtown Stamford bar.
Social media tips break the case
According to the Stamford Police Department, officers were called to Stamford Hospital at approximately 12:38 a.m. after a man arrived with a severe jaw injury. Investigators determined the victim, who owns the bar where the incident occurred, had removed a disruptive patron who was allegedly harassing employees and customers.
Police said the suspect later returned through a rear entrance and allegedly stabbed the victim in the face with a sharp object before fleeing. The victim was treated at the hospital, where he received 16 stitches.
Detectives reviewed surveillance video and released a still image of the suspect on the department’s Facebook and Instagram pages on July 23, asking for the public’s help in identifying him.
Victim identifies suspect
Authorities said the response was immediate, with numerous tips leading detectives to identify Mardirossian as the suspect. Investigators then conducted a photographic lineup, during which the victim positively identified him as the person responsible for the assault.
Based on the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Mardirossian with second-degree assault, breach of peace, and criminal trespass.
After being contacted by investigators, Mardirossian voluntarily surrendered at Stamford Police Headquarters on Monday. He was taken into custody without incident, processed, and held on a $75,000 court-set bond.
