A flatbed tractor-trailer left the roadway before becoming lodged deep in a wooded area, sending its driver to the hospital and closing a busy South Jersey highway.
ABSECON, NJ — A flatbed tractor-trailer crashed off Route 9 early Wednesday, leaving the driver with serious injuries and forcing a five-hour closure as crews worked to remove the truck from a wooded area.
The crash occurred just after 4 a.m. on South New Road (Route 9) near the Creek Bridge, according to the Absecon Police Department.
A preliminary investigation found the tractor-trailer struck a guardrail before leaving the roadway and traveling into the woods, where it became deeply embedded.
The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported by EMS to an area hospital for treatment.
South New Road remained closed for approximately five hours while emergency responders secured the scene, investigators documented the crash and recovery crews completed the removal of the tractor-trailer.
The Absecon Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
