A Baltimore County student says a post-workout feeling inspired him to buy a Racetrax ticket that ended up helping fund his path to medical school.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A Baltimore County man hoping to become a doctor is one step closer to his goal after winning $32,280 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Racetrax game.
The Randallstown resident claimed the prize July 27 at Maryland Lottery headquarters after discovering a ticket he had left in his car was worth more than $32,000.
The winner said he had only been playing Racetrax for a few months after learning the game from his uncle, who often plays alongside him.
On May 2, after a workout at the gym, he decided to stop at the Royal Farms located at 11510 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills and purchase a $1 Trifecta ticket with the bonus option for 20 draws. The ticket cost $35.
“I was feeling great,” he said. “I guess it was an adrenaline rush.”
He watched some of the races before leaving the store and forgot about the ticket until several days later.
“I left tickets in the car and remembered that I needed to check them,” he said. “When I scanned that one winning ticket and it said $32,280, I thought, ‘Wow, I can pay for school!'”
The winner said the money will help him pursue medical school, with the Medical College Admission Test, or MCAT, next on his list.
The winning ticket was sold at the Royal Farms store at 11510 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills. The retailer will receive a $322.80 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
