37-year-old man fatally shot on Delray Road before officers track down suspect
COLUMBUS, OH – An argument between two men erupted into deadly gunfire on a Columbus street Sunday morning, leaving a 37-year-old man dead and a murder suspect in custody after patrol officers located him, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Delray Road at approximately 10:55 a.m. following reports of a shooting.
They found Charles James Holliday, 37, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medics responded to the scene and pronounced Holliday dead at 11:04 a.m., nine minutes after officers were initially dispatched.
Police identified Kevin Lee Meeker, 40, as the suspect.
A preliminary investigation determined Holliday and Meeker had been involved in an argument before the shooting, police said. Officials did not release information about what prompted the dispute or the events that led to the gunfire.
Patrol officers subsequently located Meeker and took him into custody without incident.
Police said Meeker faces a murder charge in connection with Holliday’s death. Both the shooting and arrest occurred Sunday, Aug. 10.
The Columbus Police Homicide Unit is continuing the investigation.
