Winning ticket sold at Milan gas station turns into a massive payday for an Ohio trust
MILAN, OH – A $30 scratch-off purchased at a Milan gas station turned into a $1 million Ohio Lottery win, with The Windfall Fairfield Trust choosing to take the prize in one immediate cash payment rather than collect $40,000 a year for the next 25 years.
The winning Wild Cash Tripler ticket was purchased at Village Gas Station, located at 2 Church St. in Milan, according to the Ohio Lottery.
The ticket carried a second-tier prize of $40,000 per year for 25 years, totaling $1 million.
The Windfall Fairfield Trust claimed the prize and was represented by attorney Joseph M. Nixon.
Instead of taking the full $1 million through annual payments, the trust selected the game’s $500,000 cash option.
After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 26.75%, the trust will receive $366,250.
The Ohio Lottery did not release information about the individual or individuals represented by the trust.
Wild Cash Tripler is a $30 scratch-off offering prizes of up to $3 million.
As of Wednesday, two top prizes paying $120,000 per year for 25 years remain in the game.
Four additional second-tier prizes paying $40,000 annually for 25 years also remain.
The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $35 billion to education since 1974.
