EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — Evesham Township police are recognizing Nicholas Latigona for achieving Master Police Officer 1 status through a voluntary program that requires advanced training and encourages officers to lead by example.
In its announcement recognizing Latigona, the department credited participating officers with taking the initiative to meet the program’s requirements while continuing to serve the community.
A career spanning patrol and traffic safety
Latigona began his law enforcement career with the Evesham Township Police Department in 2020. He has served in the Patrol Bureau and Traffic Unit, gaining experience in police operations and traffic safety.
Those assignments cover a broad range of public needs. According to the department’s Patrol Bureau overview, patrol officers respond to criminal complaints, crashes, medical emergencies and neighborhood concerns while providing police service around the clock.
Latigona also serves as one of the department’s Humane Law Enforcement Officers and belongs to its Honor Guard. Those responsibilities supplement his regular duties.
Three levels of training and leadership
The Master Police Officer program recognizes more senior officers who pursue further training and demonstrate leadership through their work. It also establishes a path for professional development and informal leadership.
The program has three phases: Master Police Officer 1, 2 and 3. Each carries specific requirements, including advanced training, with leadership training among the components.

Participation in the MPO program is strictly voluntary. The department said each officer receiving a designation proactively worked toward and met the requirements for that level.
