Bronx, NY – The last time the cheating Astros played in Yankee Stadium was in October of 2019 when they were caught cheating and stealing signs. Last year, the two teams did not meet because of COVID-19 restrictions. When Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros returned to the Bronx last night, they were met by boisterous and angry Yankees fans who have been waiting nearly two years for payback.
“F-ck Altuve” the fans chanted most of the night, making the Astros star go hitless in their 7-3 loss to the Yankees. Altuve came up ‘short‘ and wasn’t able to help his team, going 0 for 4 in the lead-off spot. Although the stadium was at reduced capacity, Astros manager Dusty Baker said it sounded like a full house.
“The fans were extremely hard on Altuve tonight,” said after the game. “He’s exerting a lot of effort, maybe too much effort. At least there wasn’t any violence. They can say whatever they want. It sounded like a packed house tonight even though it wasn’t. We expected that reception, so we’ll get more of the same tomorrow and the next day.”
In October of 1995, Yankees fans began throwing batteries at Seattle Mariners’ outfield Ken Griffey, Jr. On Tuesday night, fans stopped ‘short‘ of such behavior.
