Woman charged for assaulting 77-year-old during parking lot scuffle

ALBANY, NY – An Albany woman has been charged in connection with an assault that occurred this morning on Central Avenue. On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at approximately 8:15 a.m., officers responded to a parking lot on the 200 block of Central Avenue just east of North Lake Avenue for reports of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers learned that two women had a disagreement while in the parking lot and that one of the women pushed the other to the ground.

The victim, a 77-year-old woman from Albany, sustained traumatic injuries during the incident and was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital. She is currently being treated at the hospital and is listed in critical condition. The suspect, Shante Cooper, 36, of Albany, was located at the scene by officers and taken into custody. Cooper has been charged with Assault 2nd.

She is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Albany Criminal Court.
