NEW ROCHELLE, NJ – The New Rochelle Police Department is on its way to becoming more environmentally friendly as it rolls out its first hybrid patrol vehicle.
According to a press release today, the New Rochelle Police Department will be putting into service the first Hybrid Electric Police Patrol Ford Explorers.
“The goal is to switch the patrol fleet to hybrids over the next few years, saving the city money in fuel costs and reducing the city’s carbon footprint,” the department said. “The hybrid configuration allows the engine to shut down without interrupting the supply of electricity required to keep the vehicle’s computers and communication devices working.”
