SEASIDE HEIGHTS – The New Jersey Department of Transportation is advising motorists who are driving to Seaside Heights for special events between now and May to seek alternative routes other than Route 37 eastbound/Mathis Bridge.
The $74 million Mathis Bridge project is under construction for the winter/spring season until May 12. The work includes replacing the existing bridge deck and making safety improvements to the barrier and railings, among other work. Construction is taking place for three seasons and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2018.
Transportation officials are working with local event organizers to minimize congestion and help traffic flow as smoothly as possible for Seaside Heights events such as the Polar Bear Plunge and the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
