Bedford, TX – Michelle Murphy, 58, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for attempting to hire a hitman on the dark web to kill her boyfriend’s lover. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing after Murphy pleaded guilty to one count of murder-for-hire last December.
Following her release from prison, Murphy will be under supervised release for two years, and the court has recommended her participation in mental health treatment programs.
The case began last summer when Murphy converted cash into cryptocurrency, transferring it to a Bitcoin wallet she believed belonged to the intended hitman recipient.
The dark web scheme came to light in August 2023 after Homeland Security Investigations received a tip about the plot.
