Absecon mourns beloved crossing guard Thomas “Frank” Lavery

ABSECON, N.J. — The Absecon community is mourning the loss of Thomas “Frank” Lavery, a dedicated crossing guard who served the city for nearly a decade, ensuring the safety of children and fostering a sense of care and compassion in front of the Absecon School Complex.

Frank, known for his warm smile and kind words, became a cherished figure for countless students and families. For nearly ten years, he greeted children each morning, taking pride in his role as a guardian at the crossroads of their educational journeys.

“Frank generated friendly relationships with countless students and families over the years,” the Absecon Police Department said in a statement. “He continually mentioned his joy in seeing those students each and every morning, as they proceeded through their educational journey.”

His loss is deeply felt throughout the community, and heartfelt condolences have been extended to his wife, Brigid, and his family. A tribute from the police department described Frank as more than just a crossing guard, noting that he was a guiding presence who made every student feel like family.

Services will be held tomorrow, December 20, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, with a gathering from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m.

Frank Lavery’s legacy of kindness and dedication leaves a lasting mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
