Afternoon fire displaces resident in Gloucester Township firefighter injured

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A house fire on Sunday afternoon in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township displaced a resident and sent one firefighter to the hospital, according to Gloucester Township Police.

Officers were dispatched to 4 Edinburgh Road at approximately 3:38 p.m. on November 3, after receiving reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, responders found heavy smoke and flames emanating from the home. The resident was not home at the time, and no civilians were injured in the incident.

Multiple fire departments, including Blackwood Fire Company, Chews Landing Fire Department, Gloucester Twp. Squad 88, Blenheim Fire Company, Lambs Terrace Fire Company, Erial Fire Department, Pine Hill Fire Department, and Deptford Fire Department, responded to the scene and were able to bring the fire under control. EMS support from Inspira BLS and Virtua ALS was also on-site.

The sole occupant of the residence has been displaced and will be staying with family. One firefighter from Pine Hill required medical evaluation and was transported to a local hospital by Inspira EMS.

Authorities say the fire does not appear suspicious but remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal from Blackwood Fire Department Station 84. The fire caused street closures in the Chestnut Glen neighborhood for several hours as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze.

Gloucester Township Police remind residents to check their smoke alarms and fire suppression systems to ensure they are functioning properly, as working smoke alarms provide early warning and can be critical in escaping safely in the event of a fire.
