Armed carjackers busted after aerial surveillance operation in DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two suspects, including a juvenile, were arrested this week after Metropolitan Police used aerial surveillance to track a carjacked vehicle linked to a pair of armed carjackings in Northeast D.C., officials announced Thursday.

The first incident occurred late Tuesday night, March 25, at approximately 11:54 p.m. in the 900 block of 7th Street, Northeast. Police said the suspects approached a victim sitting in a vehicle. One suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the victim exit. Although they took personal property, the suspects were unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle.

Just hours later, around 4:53 a.m. on March 26, the suspects targeted another victim who had exited their vehicle in the 3900 block of Fort Lincoln Drive, Northeast. In this case, the suspects displayed a gun, took the victim’s property, and fled in the stolen vehicle.

MPD’s helicopter, Falcon 1, located the carjacked vehicle shortly after the second incident and tracked it to the area of 16th Street and Galen Street, Southeast. Ground units from the Robbery Suppression Unit moved in and arrested both suspects without incident.

Recovered at the scene were the stolen vehicle, property taken during the attempted carjacking, and a handgun.

As a result of the investigation, 18-year-old Jamari Robinson of Southeast, D.C., and a 16-year-old male from Northwest, D.C., were both charged with two counts of Armed Carjacking (Gun).
