Pair kicked in a back door while the resident was home before fleeing with stolen property
POINT PLEASANT, NJ – A California man and woman are headed to New Jersey State Prison for seven years after prosecutors said they kicked through the back door of a Point Pleasant home, stole property while the resident was inside and fled after a gunshot was fired into the air.
Jaheim Wilson, 24, and Oleyah Brown, 22, both of Stockton, California, were sentenced Friday by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan in connection with the Aug. 7, 2025, burglary, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
Both received seven-year state prison sentences for burglary.
Under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, Wilson and Brown must serve at least 85% of those sentences before becoming eligible for parole, prosecutors said.
Wilson also received a five-year state prison sentence, including a 42-month period of parole ineligibility, for unlawful possession of a weapon. That sentence will run concurrently with his seven-year burglary sentence.
The case began around 1:38 p.m. when Point Pleasant Borough officers were called to a Barton Avenue residence for a reported home invasion in which a gunshot had been fired.
Officers arrived to find the home’s rear door had been forced open and the residence burglarized, according to prosecutors.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Point Pleasant Borough Police Department determined a man carrying a handgun and a woman kicked open the rear door while the occupant was inside.
The pair then took personal property belonging to the resident, prosecutors said.
Before fleeing, the man fired one gunshot into the air, according to the prosecutor’s office. No injuries were reported in the prosecutor’s announcement.
Investigators identified Wilson and Brown in connection with the burglary.
Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office detectives located the pair later that same day in Toms River and took them into custody without incident.
Wilson and Brown were transported to the Ocean County Jail and have remained detained there since their arrests, prosecutors said.
Both pleaded guilty before Ryan on June 15.
The prosecutor’s office credited Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater with handling the case for the state.
Billhimer also credited the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Narcotics Strike Force, Point Pleasant Borough Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for their work on the investigation.
