Armed robbers assault employee and flee in gray Mercedes SUV after daytime heist

NEWARK, NJ – Two unidentified suspects assaulted and robbed a 53-year-old employee inside a Northfield Avenue business Tuesday afternoon before escaping in a gray Mercedes SUV.

The robbery happened around 12:20 p.m. inside 451 Northfield Avenue, according to police.

The victim sustained minor injuries after being struck in the head with a firearm but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Suspects brandished gun during confrontation

Authorities said one of the suspects displayed a firearm during the incident and struck the employee over the head while the second suspect forced him to the ground. The pair demanded property from the victim before fleeing the store.

Witnesses reported seeing the two suspects leave the area in a gray Mercedes SUV, which investigators are now working to identify.

Investigation underway

Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and have released images of the suspects to the public through the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information (DCPI).

No arrests have been made, and police have not disclosed what items were taken during the robbery.

Public asked to assist

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the vehicle to contact the Newark Police Department or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
