Armed suspect shot and killed by police in Coney Island after firing gun at cops

NEW YORK – New York City police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in Coney Island overnight that ended with one man shot dead in the street.

According to police, officers responded to the area of West 36th Street and Mermaid Avenue after hearing gunfire in the Brooklyn seaside neighborhood. Two officers on patrol in the area rushed to the scene of the shooting at around 10:15 pm Thursday night to find two women who claimed they had been shot at.

A man was allegedly firing a gun. As officers moved in to investigate, the suspect began firing at the officers.

An NYPD spokesperson said officers returned fire, striking the suspect. Officers administered first aid to the victim, but he died at the scene of the incident.

Several officers were taken to their hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries. Police have not identified the suspect, but believe he was engaged in a domestic argument with the two women.
