Armed suspects steal car after failed first try in Navy Yard

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police are searching for two suspects involved in an armed carjacking Tuesday afternoon in the Navy Yard neighborhood, after they first attempted to take a vehicle from one person before successfully stealing a second.

The incident began around 3:29 p.m. on March 25 in the 400 block of K Street, Southeast. The first victim was exiting their vehicle when the suspects approached and demanded the car keys. The victim attempted to flag down a nearby motorist, prompting the suspects to flee without taking anything.

Minutes later, the same suspects confronted a second victim at the intersection of 3rd and K Streets, Southeast. One suspect lifted his shirt to display a handgun tucked in his waistband and demanded the vehicle. The victim complied, and the suspects fled the scene in the stolen car.

Both individuals were captured on nearby surveillance cameras, and police have released images in hopes of identifying them.

Anyone with information is urged to call (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
