Atlantic City Named Best Boardwalk in America, Do You Agree?

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Fodor’s Travel, a travel destination website has just ranked the Atlantic City Boardwalk as the number one boardwalk in all of America. Atlantic City is by far New Jersey’s most commercialized boardwalk with national chains and well know casino brands, but is it the best in New Jersey, let alone America?

For those who live in New Jersey, we often skip over the Atlantic City Boardwalk in favor of more family-friendly destinations such as Wildwood, Point Pleasant, Ocean City, Seaside and Asbury Park.

Here’s what Fodor’s says about Atlantic City’s boardwalk:

Atlantic City’s boardwalk is internationally famous. It is said to be the world’s first and longest boardwalk dating way back to 1870. The structure’s original intent was to protect the nearby hotels from unruly ocean waves, but over time, as the boardwalk grew to its current length of 5.5 miles, it became an international entertainment hub. Explore the high-end hotels and casinos like the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, or take a swing at Atlantic City Miniature Golf. Walk the adjacent piers, which offer visitors several additional attractions and shopping spots. Check out the Central Pier Arcade and Speedway for extensive choices of arcade games. At “Steel Pier,” take a ride on the carousel or the observation wheel overlooking the city. Nearby, “Garden Pier” is the arts and cultural center of the boardwalk, featuring the Atlantic City Historical Museum and Atlantic City Art Center.

None of New Jersey’s other boardwalks made the cut.

There’s no doubt Atlantic City is a great boardwalk with a lot to do, but for many New Jerseyans, we choose instead to visit the more local mom-and-pop boardwalks as a family destination. That’s not to say among the big hitters, Atlantic City doesn’t deserve its spot at the top.
