Atlantic city police make arrest in traffic stop for gun and drugs

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — An Atlantic City driver, Anthony Ford Jr., age 20, was arrested and detained following a motor vehicle stop that led to the discovery of a loaded handgun and drugs. The incident occurred on the evening of May 28, 2024, on Pacific Avenue at the intersection with Arkansas Avenue.

During the stop initiated by Detectives Alberto Valles, Eric Evans, Troy Grams, and Christopher Dodson, K9 Officer Melvin Murray and his canine partner Jynx, trained in narcotic detection, were called to the scene. K9 Jynx alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle, prompting a thorough search by detectives.

The search resulted in the discovery of a bookbag containing a loaded handgun, 18 grams of cocaine, 43 grams of marijuana, and various paraphernalia associated with the distribution of narcotics.

Anthony Ford Jr. faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, and unlawful possession of a weapon while committing a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) offense. Additionally, he is charged with possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute (two counts), and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Ford has been remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending further proceedings. It is important to note that these charges are accusations, and like all defendants, Ford is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
