BALTIMORE — Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced on Thursday that no charges will be filed in the fatal police-involved shooting of Sha-Kim Webley, which occurred in January in Baltimore County.
After a thorough investigation, the Office of the Attorney General determined that none of the officers involved in the January 9, 2024, shooting violated Maryland law.
As a result, the Attorney General has declined to prosecute the officers.
The incident unfolded at approximately 11:40 a.m. when Baltimore County Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a motel in the 400 block of Reisterstown Road in Pikesville.
The call reported that a man, later identified as Webley, was armed with a gun. When officers arrived, they were informed that Webley had left the scene and was likely inside a nearby convenience store. Officers found Webley at the store, and he was seen holding a gun inside the building.
The officers set up a perimeter and declared a barricade situation.
Roughly ten minutes later, Webley exited the store and pointed the gun at the officers, prompting them to open fire, striking him. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Despite immediate medical aid by the officers and later by medics, Webley was pronounced dead at a local hospital about thirty minutes after the shooting. No officers or civilians were injured.
The Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) launched an investigation on January 9, 2024, concluding its findings on September 10, 2024.
