Baltimore County Cop Shoots Perp Armed with Knife

A man armed with a knife was shot by police in Essex Thursday night after refusing to comply with officers’ commands.

ESSEX, Md. — Baltimore County homicide detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday night in the 1000 block of Pine Road, according to police.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 15, officers from Precinct 11 responded to a report of a missing person described as suicidal. Upon locating the individual, police said he was armed with a knife and refused to drop the weapon despite repeated commands.

During the encounter, an officer discharged his firearm, striking the armed subject. The individual was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

The Baltimore County Police Department is leading the investigation. Per departmental policy, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome.
