Baltimore man wins $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize in daily lottery routine

January 11, 2025

BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore retiree’s daily lottery habit led to a life-changing moment when he won $50,000 in the January 2 Bonus Match 5 drawing, Maryland Lottery officials announced.

The winner, who regularly buys tickets while his wife works from home, picked up the winning ticket at Stoko’s in Towson as part of his morning routine. His $2 quick-pick ticket matched all five numbers in that evening’s drawing.

“This is my mission,” he said, explaining how he places the tickets on the table for his wife to check after dinner. On this occasion, she excitedly asked him to verify the numbers.

“I looked and said, ‘We got a few numbers.’ A little bit later, I said, ‘We got all the numbers,’” he recalled. His wife, thinking they had won a small prize, began jumping with joy after realizing they hit the jackpot.

The couple has not yet made plans for the winnings but intends to deposit the money and possibly plan a summer vacation.
