Baltimore waitress wins $50,000 on scratch-off lottery ticket

BALTIMORE — A Baltimore County waitress struck it big this week, winning $50,000 from a scratch-off lottery ticket during a break at work.

The Woodlawn woman, who asked to remain anonymous, revealed that she had been waiting for the lunch rush at her restaurant when she decided to play a few scratch-offs that her son had purchased earlier that morning. Among the tickets was a $5 Gold Rush 7s Tripler, which ended up hiding the top prize.

“I was thinking to myself, ‘I think I just won,’” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials, describing the moment she realized she had hit the jackpot. She managed to keep the news to herself until her shift was over, though she admitted it was difficult to focus while thinking about her windfall.

Her son, who regularly picks out lottery tickets for the duo, was thrilled when she shared the news. “You should have seen how happy my son was when I told him,” she said. She has no immediate plans for her winnings but now plans to let her son choose their lottery tickets going forward.

This is the fifth top-prize win for the Gold Rush 7s Tripler since the game launched in May. Three $50,000 prizes and several smaller prizes still remain. The Beer-Wine-Liquor Depot in Catonsville, where the ticket was purchased, will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
