Barack Obama Visits Phil Murphy’s Riverfront Mansion to Raise Millions for Mikie Sherrill

RED BANK, N.J. — Former President Barack Obama returned to the campaign fundraising circuit Friday night, joining DNC Chair Ken Martin for a high-dollar Democratic fundraiser at New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s waterfront estate in Red Bank.

The exclusive event, hosted by Gov. Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy, marked Obama’s first major fundraiser since the Democratic Party’s 2024 election losses and is seen as a crucial moment for party leadership ahead of the 2025 and 2026 election cycles.

According to sources familiar with the event, the “dinner and discussion” included Rep. Mikie Sherrill, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, and was aimed at energizing support ahead of New Jersey’s upcoming gubernatorial and legislative races in November. The event was sold out, with proceeds benefiting the Democratic National Committee.

The gathering is viewed as an early bellwether for national Democrats seeking to rebound in the midterms. Obama, who raised $85 million for Democrats in the last cycle, is expected to play a visible role in supporting candidates across key battlegrounds.

Friday’s fundraiser also reflects increased scrutiny on the DNC’s leadership after recent internal challenges and is part of a wider push to consolidate fundraising and party infrastructure ahead of pivotal races.
