Barnegat High School Student Triumphs in Anti Drug Music Competition

BARNEGAT, NJ — Jordan Ford, a senior at Barnegat High School, has won the top prize at the 20th Annual Your Song! Your Voice! Shout Down Drugs competition. His entry, “Fading,” which reflects on the personal and familial struggles associated with drug misuse, earned him a $5,000 music contract.

Jordan’s winning piece intertwines his personal experiences with loss due to cancer and violence, channeling these emotions into a compelling narrative about addiction’s impact on a family. He hopes his song prompts listeners to consider the consequences of their choices on their loved ones. “Fading” emphasizes the importance of awareness and personal responsibility in combating drug misuse.

The competition, hosted by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey, featured 22 finalists whose songs were aired during a virtual concert on May 8, broadcast by 95.9 WRAT. The event concluded with the winners being announced live, chosen by a panel of judges including Jimmy Steal, the Creative Services Director of WRAT.

Jordan’s victory has reaffirmed his musical talents and his commitment to promoting a drug-free lifestyle. As part of his music contract, he will perform across New Jersey, sharing his music and his message of resilience and hope. Inspired by contemporary artist SZA, Jordan aims to connect deeply with his audience through his music.
