TRENTON, NJ — DoorDash has initiated responsible alcohol delivery in New Jersey starting November 16. This service allows consumers to order beer and wine from local merchants directly through the DoorDash app.
Erik Ragotte, General Manager of Alcohol and Convenience at DoorDash, emphasized the significance of this launch. He highlighted the company’s commitment to safety, mentioning the integration of a comprehensive ID verification process. This process includes scanning IDs at the time of purchase and delivery, and a physical ID check at the point of delivery.
The company’s 2023 Alcohol Ordering Trends report indicates a 60% increase in on-demand alcohol delivery usage compared to the previous year. DoorDash’s introduction of alcohol delivery in New Jersey aims to meet this growing consumer demand while ensuring responsible service.
To ensure safety, DoorDash has implemented several measures. These include a state-of-the-art ID verification process, bans on deliveries to high-risk areas like college campuses, mandatory compliance training for delivery personnel (Dashers), a self-exclusion register for consumers who choose not to receive alcohol deliveries, and a return flow process for undeliverable alcohol.
DoorDash’s expansion into alcohol delivery is part of its broader strategy to empower local businesses, provide earning opportunities for Dashers, and offer diverse options to consumers. The company plans to work closely with the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control to maintain safe and responsible alcohol delivery practices.
