Police say a search uncovered suspected drugs and paraphernalia
CUMBERLAND, MD – A bicycle ride on a Cumberland sidewalk escalated into a drug case after police arrested a 63-year-old man and said a subsequent search uncovered suspected crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Cumberland Police identified the man as William Foster Younger Jr. of Cumberland.
According to the department, an officer initially placed Younger under arrest for riding a bicycle on a sidewalk in the city.
Police said officers conducted a search incident to the arrest and located suspected controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and suspected crack cocaine on Younger.
Younger was released on a criminal citation for the bicycle offense.
Police subsequently submitted an application for charges to the District Court of Allegany County related to the items allegedly discovered during the search.
A criminal summons was later issued and served Thursday.
Police listed charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Younger was released pending trial, according to the department.
The substances were described by police as suspected crack cocaine and paraphernalia, and the charges have not been proven in court.
