Bomb threat at New Jersey Catholic Church prompts evacuation

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A reported bomb threat at St. Al’s Church and its adjacent school on Monday led to a full evacuation of the property by Jackson Township police. No injuries have been reported, and authorities are treating the situation as a precaution while an investigation is underway.

Police cleared the entire property of staff, students, and visitors after receiving the threat. Both the church and school grounds are currently closed to the public as emergency personnel continue to secure the area.

“We are currently investigating a report of an explosive device at St. Al’s church and adjoining school that resulted in officers having to entirely evacuate the property,” the Jackson Township Police Department said in a public statement.

Officials stressed that no device has been found and the response is preventative in nature. Bomb detection units and investigators are on scene conducting a thorough search of the premises.

Authorities have requested the public avoid the area and expect possible delays, as traffic in the vicinity may be impacted by road closures and the presence of emergency vehicles.

“As of now, no one will be allowed admittance to the location,” police said in their statement. “You may experience delays in traffic during this time in the area as a direct result of this investigation.”

Officers are directing vehicles away from the area surrounding St. Al’s while maintaining a secured perimeter. There has been no indication of when access to the site may be restored.
