Boston Police Arrest Man for Firearm Possession and Assault in Hyde Park

July 21, 2024

BOSTON, MA—Boston Police have arrested a 22-year-old West Roxbury man on multiple charges following a confrontation in Hyde Park. The incident occurred around 9:48 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Officers from District E-18 responded to a call at 147 West Street, where a male subject, identified as Gesner Joseph, was reportedly refusing to pay for a tow service and threatening the tow operator with a firearm. According to the Boston Police Operations, Joseph had made explicit threats to shoot if he did not retrieve his car.

Upon arrival, police found Joseph grabbing his waistband and instructed him to remove his hands from his pockets, which he complied with. A subsequent pat frisk revealed a Sig Sauer P365 handgun in his right pant pocket and a loaded magazine with eleven rounds in the left pocket.

Joseph was arrested at the scene and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. He is scheduled for arraignment at West Roxbury District Court. The quick response of the officers prevented any escalation and ensured community safety.
