NORTH GARDEN, Va. — A 67-year-old man from Covesville was killed Tuesday morning after a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a box truck on Monacan Trail Road, according to Albemarle County Police.
The crash occurred around 8:03 a.m. in the area of Rock Branch Lane. When first responders arrived, they found both vehicles heavily damaged from the impact.
The pickup truck driver, identified as Randall D. Bickel, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the box truck survived and was taken to UVA Health with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. No further details have been released about the cause of the collision or whether charges are being considered.
Bickel was a resident of Covesville, a small community south of Charlottesville.
The investigation is ongoing.
