Bradford County man convicted of repeated sexual assault of child

December 5, 2024

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Bradford County jury on Tuesday found Matthew Chapman, 43, guilty of repeated sexual abuse of a child after a two-day trial, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General announced.

Chapman, a resident of Ridgebury Township, was convicted of indecent assault and corruption of minors. Sentencing is scheduled for February 20, following an evaluation by the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.

“The defendant violated the trust of a vulnerable young child to perpetrate repeated sexual assaults,” Attorney General Michelle Henry said in a statement. “My office takes its responsibility to protect children very seriously, and we will continue to do everything in our power to protect them from predators who seek to sexually exploit and abuse them.”

During the trial, testimony revealed that Chapman assaulted the child on multiple occasions while she was asleep. His connection to the child’s family allowed him access to her, prosecutors said.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Rebecca Elo led the prosecution in the case, which concluded with the jury delivering its verdict on Tuesday.
