Bridgeville Man Arrested for DUI and Drug Charges

BRIDGEVILLE, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested 32-year-old Robert Layton of Bridgeville on multiple charges, including felony DUI and drug-related offenses. The arrest occurred yesterday morning after troopers observed suspicious driving behavior.

On May 22, at around 11:25 a.m., troopers noticed a maroon Ford pickup weaving between lanes on Coverdale Road near Seaford. Upon stopping the vehicle and conducting field sobriety tests, Layton showed signs of impairment. A background check revealed that this was his third DUI-related arrest. Troopers also discovered a child in the vehicle during the incident.

A search of Layton’s truck yielded several drugs, including approximately 2.9 grams of crack cocaine, 1.015 grams of suspected heroin, and 1.15 grams of suspected powder cocaine. Layton was charged with three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance (Tier 1), third offense DUI—all felonies—along with possession of drug paraphernalia, endangering the welfare of a child, and several traffic-related offenses.

Layton was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and is currently held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $15,003 secured bond.
