Bronx duo hits jackpot in $1M Erie Canal lottery raffle win

BRONX, NY — A Bronx couple scored big when their ticket was one of 15 selected in the New York Lottery’s special Million Dollar Raffle, walking away with a combined $1 million payday tied to the Erie Canal bicentennial celebration.

Roseanne Serricchio and Walter Diaz, both residents of the Bronx, claimed their top prize ticket from the October 26 drawing, opting to split the $1 million prize. After taxes, each received a lump sum payment of $306,120.

The lucky ticket was purchased at Throgs Neck Petrol at 4147 Throgs Neck Expressway, which also pocketed a $5,000 bonus for selling a top-prize winner.

The New York Lottery organized the special Million Dollar Raffle to mark 200 years since the construction of the Erie Canal. The raffle featured 15 winning tickets, each worth $1 million. In addition to the Bronx ticket, top-prize winners were sold in Chenango, Dutchess, Genesee, New York, Queens, Schenectady, Suffolk, and Westchester counties.

The New York Lottery remains the largest and most profitable in North America, having generated $3.6 billion in aid for public schools across the state during the last fiscal year.
