Bronx Man Receives 20-Year Sentence for Manslaughter

July 26, 2024

BRONX, NY—A Bronx man, Johnnie Vickers, 42, has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of an acquaintance, 23-year-old Adam Saunders. Bronx Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey M. Zimmerman handed down the sentence today following a jury’s guilty verdict on April 19 for first-degree manslaughter.

The violent incident occurred on February 18, 2021, at Vickers’ Cruger Avenue apartment, where he repeatedly stabbed Saunders in the back. The victim’s body was discovered four days later after police were alerted by neighbors complaining of a foul odor. Vickers was arrested on March 3, 2021.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark stated, “The defendant viciously stabbed a 23-year-old man. He has been held accountable and will spend many years in prison.” The case was successfully prosecuted by Karl Miller, Homicide Counsel, and Assistant District Attorney Thomas Arning, under the guidance of senior legal staff.

District Attorney Clark also acknowledged the contributions of the Homicide Bureau professional staff, the NYPD detectives involved, and the video unit personnel who provided vital support in securing the conviction.
