Bronx man sentenced to 25 years to life for murdering his mother

BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the brutal 2020 murder of his mother, prosecutors announced Friday.

Michael Marte, 33, was sentenced on January 31 by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Alvin Yearwood after being convicted of second-degree murder following a three-week jury trial.

According to investigators, Marte fatally attacked his mother, 59-year-old Teresita Rosario, in the early morning hours of November 28, 2020, at their home on Clinton Avenue. He stabbed her in the neck, strangled her with a cord, and then placed a plastic bag over her head before fleeing.

Surveillance footage captured Marte leaving the residence at 4:30 a.m. and getting into an Uber, which took him to John F. Kennedy International Airport. He boarded a flight to California, where he was later apprehended and extradited to New York in June 2021.

“The defendant got into an argument with his mother and then killed her in a particularly gruesome manner before fleeing to California,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said. “He will spend decades in prison for his heinous actions.”
