Brooklyn Councilwoman Criticizes Local Display of Taliban Flag

July 23, 2024

BROOKLYN, NY—Councilwoman Inna Vernikov has publicly condemned the display of a Taliban flag in her district in Southern Brooklyn. In a recent tweet, Vernikov linked the presence of the flag to broader national policy issues, criticizing open border policies and the Democratic Party’s approach to immigration.

Vernikov also targeted the current administration’s handling of border security, questioning the effectiveness of the appointed “border czar” Vice President Kamala Harris.

The councilwoman’s comments reflect her concerns about national security and immigration policies affecting local communities. She has been very outspoken against threats, attacks, and the intimidation of Jewish residents of the city.

Vernikov said her constituents in Brighton Beach were concerned as the flag sits near a Jewish daycare and a synagogue. She reminded New Yorkers that the Taliban played a large role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
