Brooklyn, NY — A 60-year-old woman was ambushed on a Brooklyn street and dragged into an alley during a violent attempted robbery that left police searching for a suspect who fled into the night.

The incident occurred Friday around 9:14 p.m. in front of 6922 21st Avenue within the confines of the 62nd Precinct, according to the NYPD.

Investigators said an unidentified male approached the victim, grabbed her hooded jacket, and pulled it over her face before attempting to choke her by covering her nose and restricting her breathing.

The suspect then dragged the woman into a nearby alleyway and attempted to steal her purse. During the struggle, he removed her cellphone and threw it to the ground before fleeing on foot northbound along 21st Avenue toward Bay Ridge Avenue.

The victim’s condition has not been disclosed.

Police have not released a description of the suspect as the investigation remains ongoing.
