Brooklyn man arrested for murder after woman found dead during wellness check

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man has been arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon following the death of a woman discovered during a wellness check Thursday night.

At approximately 8:48 p.m., officers from the 63rd Precinct responded to a 911 call requesting a wellness check at 1886 New York Avenue. Upon arrival, police found 26-year-old Dahana Jean unconscious and unresponsive with an injury to her neck. EMS pronounced Jean dead at the scene.

Police quickly identified and arrested 32-year-old John Roseau of 4515 Snyder Avenue in Brooklyn in connection with the incident. Authorities have charged Roseau with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The circumstances leading up to the killing have not been disclosed. Investigators remain tight-lipped as they continue to piece together the events that resulted in Jean’s death.

Investigation continues as suspect faces serious charges

The motive behind the killing remains under investigation. Officials have not provided details regarding the weapon used or the relationship between Roseau and Jean.

The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death. Law enforcement sources indicated that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be considered depending on the findings.

Roseau is expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court. It remains unclear if he has retained legal representation at this time.
