Brooklyn man sentenced to 25 years for deadly stabbing of ex who ended affair

June 17, 2025

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of a woman who tried to end an extramarital relationship with him, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Wednesday.

Sheng Mao Chen, 48, of Sunset Park, was convicted earlier this month of first-degree manslaughter following a bench trial before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun. The sentence stems from a 2019 killing in which Chen stabbed the victim 35 times outside his home.

The victim, Xiu Rong Zheng, 46, died at the scene after suffering multiple stab wounds to the heart, back, and arms. The attack took place in front of Chen’s 17-year-old son, according to prosecutors.

“This was a deeply disturbing case of domestic violence that ended in a brutal killing,” Gonzalez said. “I hope today’s sentence brings a measure of justice and closure to the victim’s loved ones.”

Defendant fled New York after attack

Prosecutors said Chen and Zheng had been involved in an affair, which she later ended. In the months leading up to the killing, Chen allegedly harassed both Zheng and her husband.

On July 22, 2019, at around 10 p.m., Zheng confronted Chen at his home. As she stood on his front steps, he attacked her with a knife, inflicting five stab wounds to her heart and numerous others to her back and hands. The defensive wounds suggested she attempted to flee and shield herself during the assault.

Chen fled the state after the killing and was later apprehended in Indiana during a traffic stop. He was extradited to New York to face charges.
