Brutal Bronx sidewalk attack leaves 63-year-old woman unconscious in broad daylight

BRONX, NY — The NYPD is searching for a suspect wanted in a violent, unprovoked assault on a 63-year-old woman outside a University Heights building Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Police said the attack occurred around 3 p.m. in front of 2260 University Avenue, within the 52nd Precinct. According to the report, an unidentified individual approached the woman and punched her in the face without warning.

The force of the blow caused the victim to lose consciousness, and she suffered a serious injury to her nose. EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim for treatment. Her current condition has not been released.

“The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in ascertaining the identity and whereabouts of the individual depicted in the attached media,” the department said in a public statement.

Following the attack, the suspect fled the location on foot and remains at large. Police have released surveillance footage and images of the individual in hopes of identifying them.

The motive behind the assault remains unknown, and investigators have not determined if the suspect and victim knew each other.

The NYPD is urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
