Burlington police K-9 Dutch recovering after tail surgery

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The Burlington Police Department announced that one of its K-9 officers, Dutch, is recovering after undergoing surgery on his tail.

In a statement shared Thursday, the department said, “Please join us in wishing K-9 Dutch a smooth and speedy recovery after undergoing surgery on his tail. He is currently resting up and being well cared for by his handler, Officer Zeuner.”

Dutch, who serves alongside Officer Zeuner, is receiving post-surgery care and is reportedly in good spirits. The department emphasized that Dutch is in good hands and expressed optimism about his return to duty.

The police department did not release additional details about the nature of the injury or the surgery performed.

Community support for K-9 officer

K-9 Dutch is part of Burlington’s K-9 unit, which assists officers with searches, tracking, and community outreach. His temporary absence is being felt by both the department and the community.

The department’s post prompted an outpouring of support from residents, many of whom offered well wishes for Dutch’s recovery.

Officials said they look forward to having Dutch back in the community once he is fully healed.
