Jackson Township, NJ – A coach bus traveling northbound crashed into a home at the busy T-intersection of East Veterans Highway (Ocean County Route 528) and Whitesville Road early Wednesday morning after apparently continuing straight through the intersection.
The impact sent the bus into the front of the residence on the north side of East Veterans Highway, causing extensive damage to the home’s front porch and structural components. Authorities posted red warning notices on the building, indicating it had been deemed unsafe for occupancy.
Scene showed no apparent skid marks
The cause of the crash has not been officially released, but the scene appeared to show no visible skid marks leading to the point of impact, suggesting the bus continued through the intersection without stopping before striking the home.
Police did not release any information on the incident and the owner of the bus has not been released at this time. What caused the crash remains under investigation.
Home sustained significant structural damage
The damage extended across much of the front of the residence, where the porch partially collapsed under the force of the collision. Red placards were posted on the home’s doors and windows after officials determined the structure had sustained significant damage.
In a photo from the scene, the front porch railing is twisted and partially collapsed, with piles of broken concrete, masonry, and building debris scattered along the left side of the entrance. The home’s siding remains largely intact, but the stone façade surrounding the front door shows visible impact damage.
Investigation underway
Authorities have not yet released details on what caused the bus to leave the roadway or whether mechanical issues, a medical emergency, or another factor contributed to the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released by Jackson Township authorities.
This is the second time a vehicle has crashed into a building in the past week in this section of Jackson. Earlier this week, a car crashed into the wall of the nearby McDonald’s restaurant drive-thru, cauing a closure for several days. That location has since reopened.
