ASBURY PARK, N.J. — Congressman Byron Donalds endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli this week, delivering a sharp critique of Democratic opponent Rep. Mikie Sherrill during a campaign stop in New Jersey.
Donalds, who once served with Sherrill in Congress, accused her of supporting national Democratic policies that he said have harmed New Jersey residents.
“I used to work with Mikie Sherrill,” Donalds said. “She enabled the autopen presidency and she supported every radical position put forward by Pelosi and Biden-Harris. She brags about helicopters to hide her far-left views. Her policies will crush hardworking New Jerseyans. She is deeply out of touch.”
In his speech, Donalds continued by contrasting Sherrill with Ciattarelli, describing the Republican candidate as a strong advocate for state interests and local families.
“You’ve got somebody running on the other side of the political aisle that I worked with,” Donalds said. “She’s voted for every terrible policy of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and the autopen, and Nancy Pelosi. She supports boys in girls’ sports. She supports trans-ing kids. She supports wide-open borders. She supports putting illegal aliens over you. She will not back your law enforcement. She will not make sure that your kids get the best education possible.
“But you’ve got a guy — you’ve got a guy who will stand with the State of New Jersey over the radicals in Washington, D.C. He will back your kids. He will back your law enforcement. He’ll back your small businesses. He will make New Jersey great again.”
The event concluded with Donalds praising Ciattarelli as the candidate who, in his words, would “make New Jersey great again” by focusing on local priorities, supporting police, and reducing taxes.
Neither Sherrill’s campaign nor Ciattarelli’s campaign issued immediate statements following the event.
