Calvert County Grandfather Wins $50,000 on Lottery Scratch-Off Jackpot

Baltimore, MD — A federal government worker from Calvert County, known affectionately as “Pop Pop,” has won $50,000 on the Maryland Lottery’s Jumbo Cash scratch-off game.

The winner, who prefers to keep his identity private, discovered his prize after purchasing two Jumbo Cash tickets at Jughead Liquor located at 16036 Three Notch Road in California. The father of four adult children typically plays the $10 50X The Cash scratch-off but decided to try his luck with the $10 Jumbo Cash game.

“I’ve been lucky from time to time,” he said, reflecting on his previous wins of $100 to $500. On this occasion, the first ticket yielded no prize, but the second ticket revealed the substantial $50,000 win. Overwhelmed by his good fortune, he quietly exited the store without informing the clerk and drove away in disbelief.

The winner recounted his surprise, saying, “I was amazed. I’ve never won this much money. I wondered, ‘Am I dreaming?'” To confirm his win, he scanned the ticket again at a nearby 7-Eleven and saw the same $50,000 message. He then safely hid the ticket at home until he could claim his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The Jumbo Cash game, which launched in April, offers five $250,000 top prizes and four $50,000 second-tier prizes. Three top prizes and three $50,000 prizes remain unclaimed, along with others ranging from $10 to $10,000.

Pop Pop plans to share some of his winnings with his grandchildren and use the rest to pay off bills.
