Camden Police Investigating Fatal Shooting That Claimed Life of 50-Year-Old Man

Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a Camden man who was found with a gunshot wound in the street late Thursday night.

Camden, NJ – Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 50-year-old Camden man dead Thursday night, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden County Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 10:20 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of Morse Street after receiving a report of a person who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found Cornelius Smith, 50, of Camden, lying in the street with a gunshot wound.

Victim pronounced dead at hospital

Smith was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:46 p.m., authorities said.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department are jointly investigating the shooting.

Investigation remains active

No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released information regarding a possible suspect or motive.
