Cannon fire expected early Saturday morning near West 48th Street

Celebratory Cannon Fire to Take Place in Support of PCU USS Cooperstown Commissioning Ceremony

New York, NY – On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the area of the Hudson River Greenway and West 48th St will experience celebratory blank cannon fire between approximately 10:05 – 10:10 a.m. The cannon fire is in support of the PCU USS Cooperstown Commissioning Ceremony and rehearsal.

The cannon will fire approximately 19 times during the ceremony, which marks a significant milestone in the life of the USS Cooperstown.

The ship, named after the village of Cooperstown in upstate New York, will soon be officially commissioned into the United States Navy.

Members of the public in the surrounding areas are advised to not be alarmed by the sound of the cannon fire, as it will be a controlled and rehearsed event. The blank rounds being used will not cause any harm or damage.
