ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Firefighters responded Tuesday evening to a vehicle fire near the Mississippi Avenue exit ramp on the Atlantic City Connector that resulted in a gas can exploding inside the vehicle, according to fire officials.

Atlantic City Fire Department crews arrived after the driver pulled over upon noticing smoke coming from the vehicle, according to Fire Chief Scott Evans.
Driver warned firefighters about gas can
Before firefighters began attacking the blaze, the driver alerted responders that a gasoline can was stored in the back of the vehicle.
“He let everybody know that there was a gas can in the back, so they all did take defense precautions,” Evans told BreakingAC.
The gas can exploded during the incident, but firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire before it spread further.
No injuries reported
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the vehicle fire was not immediately released.
The incident briefly drew emergency responders to the connector near the Mississippi Avenue exit while crews worked to extinguish the blaze and secure the scene.
