Cherry Hill Bank Robber Arrested A Short Time Later

By Charlie Dwyer / May 26, 2022

CHERRY HILL, NJ – A man who robbed a bank in Cherry Hill was arrested by police before he got to spend his first dollar of stolen money. Jose Cruz, 42, of Cherry Hill was charged with robbery.

According to police, on Monday at approximately 9:24 AM Cherry Hill Police Officers responded to the Citizens Bank, located at 2030 Route 70 West, for a bank robbery which had just occurred.

“Upon police arrival witnesses and bank officials reported a male suspect passed a demand note indicating he was armed with a handgun and asking for $30,000 in cash. While waiting for the bank teller’s response, the suspect grew impatient and suddenly snatched a large sum of cash off an unsuspecting patron who was attempting to make a bank transaction,” the department said. “The suspect fled the bank with the stolen money and was last seen on foot in the area of the Marketplace Shopping Center. Cherry Hill Police Patrol Units and Detectives immediately flooded the area in an attempt to locate the suspect.”

A short time later police located a male matching the description of the robbery suspect in the area of Route 38 and Cuthbert Boulevard. The male was apprehended without further incident and found to be in possession of the stolen cash proceeds
